PLAY ONLY FOR ME
REVIEWS
PLAY ONLY FOR ME is my first, full-length New Adult novel, and though the protagonists are of college age, this is a story for all ages, for anyone who remembers the angst that comes with young love. It is an emotional self-discovery tale of two young people falling in the love for the very first time against all odds. It's a tale about self-sacrifice and what it means to truly love. It's about following one's dreams and not giving them up simply for a traditional happy ending. And it's about realizing that happiness isn't a one-note, scripted, already-heard song.
Join Colton and Lauren on their journey as they realize that at "the core of everyone...we're all just looking to be found.

A truly beautiful romance with equally beautiful characters." ~ Gerry Hvozdovich, Goodreads Reviewer
"I loved it...and was gutted." ~ Laura McNellis, Book Editor "This was a moving love story. I cried throughout the book. Of the books I've read by author R B O'Brien, this is my absolute favorite! It told an evolving love story of two troubled college students from different worlds both dealing with a past of what-ifs. Colton Masters and Lauren Percy were perfect characters and O'Brien did a wonderful job of making their characters lift from the pages as real people in the real world. ~Candy Edwards, Goodreads Reviewer "One notable element is that the plot is built around music and song. That can be achallenge if the author doesn't have an ear for verse, but RBO definitely does." ~ Michael Dalton, Author "This story tore my heart out." ~Cat Rene, Goodreads Reviewer "Ms O'Brien's dialogue dances on the page. It is so real and intense, as young love usually is. We follow the ups and downs of their relationship, and sigh when it seems as though their love is about to be consummated for the first time. The story gripped me right through to the end--and what an end. The whole book touched my emotions and made me yearn for that time when life was full of such bittersweet and romantic moments..." ~Rachel de Vine, Romance Author |
"I have an incredible book hangover now." Jacqueline Chappell, Goodreads Reviewer
BEYOND THE RAIN
REVIEWS
A haunting love story.
Author R.B. O'Brien brings us the tragic love story of Max and Juliette as they meet and fall in love and are at one point separated by war. Juliette loves books as dose Max and they are both fans of Jane Austin's Pride and Prejudiced. They meet one time in the summer of 1966 the summer of love and every summer they meet but during their last summer Max asks if she will marry him and she says yes but he also tells her that he is going off to war. Rain falls on them both and Max points to the little dipper constellation and the two souls become one.I highly recommend this novella and I'm looking forward to the next adventure from R.B.

Beyond Beautiful
There's such beauty in brevity when it comes from the deft hand of one who plumbs the emotional depths of her characters as poignantly as R. B. O'Brien.
Max and Julietta's passion is a story for the ages, a promise that love endures. What could be better than that?

The world will flip like a roller coaster twisting, turning, weightless...
This short poignant story will move and thrust your emotions with every page. It it was the spring and summer of Max and Julietta. They were complete opposites yet very symbiotic complementing each other’s needs and desires. If you close your eyes and savor the words you will be transported to 1969. To the halcyon days of a New England summer lake when Aeolus restrained his winds and kept them calm.

Dreamy Yet Surprising
O'Brien knows how to deliver the classic tale of love and longing but in this case, there's quite the spooky twist to the ending! Don't worry, it's still HEA. I found myself thinking about this story long after I'd finished reading it.

Beyond the Rain delivers in all the right places.
This is the second time I read this story. I didn’t realize I had read it before, until I got a few pages in. I had read it some time ago in a publication called: Pieces of Us: A Collection of Flash Fiction, Short Stories, and Poetry, now out of print. To be honest, I felt like I was reading it for the first time, but with a haunting familiarity.
.
This story spoke to me on many levels. The young man in the story reminded me of myself at that age. The young woman seemed to be a compilation of many women I’ve known during my younger years. The feelings, places, and behaviors brought out my emotions in ways that were endearing to me. Feelings resurfaced that I forgot about or buried on purpose.
.
Have you heard of that moment when reading, that a line or phrase strikes such a cord that you literally close the book and think about it for a while, before continuing? This happened not once, but twice to me while reading this story by author, R.B. O'Brien. Although short, I read this in a couple of hours, this story is potent and well worth the read.
