My favorite author ever.
Incredibly hot love story by Bryce Calderwood
Anabelle is a fantastically believable character, very real. Michael... slightly less so, but he's the fantasy boyfriend, so I guess that's to be expected. Right from the start you feel at home inside Anabelle's head. O'Brien does a great job of writing a story that unfolds naturally and yet has some great twists and turns in it too. More than once I found myself exclaiming "Oh no you did NOT!" to something someone said or did. And I have to say that the steamy scenes were high-caliber writing: very well done! Could've used a little more spanking, though! ;) But that's just me. O'Brien loves her edging and she is a master at writing it. This book is very aptly named! Don't miss out on this story. Grab it and devour it.

Is there a star rating higher than 5? If so, this book absolutely deserves it and even more. There was so much to this book. So much that made me love it even more. From the characters, to their intense chemistry I have to say I loved it all. I loved the kink, the dirtiness just made it even better for me. At times you would find me stepping away needing to take a breather. As I was getting a little too excited. Wanting to call the first person available to be able to satisfy that longing I had. This was an emotional and sexual roller coaster. Not meant for the faint of heart. This book dug it’s claws in me and didn’t want to let go. Making it one of my top reads of 2018. - By Vanessa

Erotic but a true love story by George Hancocks
Rosemary O'Brien has to be the Grand Mistress of foreplay, edging and denial. Right from the time her heroine Annabelle meets Elevator Man Michael L. Black (i.e. on the first page) through the whole story, the sexual tension had me quivering. When Rosemary said her book was a fdark romance she really meant it. The book is a carnival ride of ups and downs as Annabelle and her dominating protagonist fight through a love affair that will leave you breathless.
At the same time, I have to admire how the author winds the romance around a real story of environmental consciousness. Her understanding of the green movement is remarkable, and while the story kept me on the edge of my seat for what seems like days, its moments of sanity brought me right back to the ground with a thud and back into the real world. In a novel with as much sexual tension as this one, that is a real accomplishment. I never felt I was reading (as we used to call them in college) a “skin” book, just an old-fashioned word for a pornographic book. O'Brien's work is true erotic literature. I kept thinking of Heathcliff, and how scandalous Emily Bronte's hero must have seemed when she published that book. Or D.H. Lawrence’s Lady Chatterley’s Lover.
Her ability to turn the story on a word is also absolutely remarkable. And he way she turned the tale first in one direction and then in another kept me hanging on the actual romance itself. Her continual references to “catholic guilt” kept me laughing and remembering instances from my teens with catholic girls I dated from time to time. All in all this is another masterpiece of erotic writing that took my breath away.
I would be remiss if I did not mention that the books is also threaded with references to the dance—ballet. Annabelle trained to be a dancer, but her fulsome body shape precluded her from ever becoming a prima ballerina. Nevertheless references to ballet crop up throughout the story, and lend credibility to the romance that is taking place. The dance references are a metaphor for the vagaries of a love affair and make it seem more real.
Erotic writing is not a genre for amateurs. True erotic writing is not pornographic even though its descriptions of lovemaking are often graphic and vivid. This is a tale of a genuine but damaged male finding his mate in a strong independent woman who also has a submissive side to her nature she barely suspects or understands. The two make an explosive combination that eventually leads to a true, albeit unconventional, love affair.

Suspenseful, emotional trilogy by Lilah E. Noir
Ever since I started having erotic fantasies most of them included some form of sexual corruption and unraveling. These are also some of my favorite pieces of writing but it is difficult to find a dark story that doesn’t involve non-consent, kidnapping and extreme conditioning/brainwashing. R.B. O’Brien definitely knows how to write a romantic story of a taboo relationship involving the corruption of innocence, domination, submission, kink and unexpected love. Her characters are usually damaged in one way or another, which is pretty typical for the dark romance subgenre, but they are also well-rounded, likeable and easy to identify with. The author had a fantastic start with Natalie Smith and Michael Black from the Natalie’s Edge series. In the first part of Thorne she continues developing her skills as a writer and takes us on an unforgettable ride with an unexpected twist. The journey of William Thorne and Victoria Rose to one another and to themselves is like a long, dark road and any hint of happy ending is beyond our line of sight… at least at the first book. William does everything he can to persuade you that you should hate, despise and condemn him as a monster. And make no mistake, like another reviewer pointed out he is not a nice guy. I must say I liked his character for being so contradictory. He was arrogant yet he frequently showed how insecure he was, cruel and ashamed of his ability to show tenderness. I also loved his totally unapologetic my-way-or-the-highway attitude. We are given small clues of the secrets from his past, from that fatal event, which changed his life but the author does a great job of keeping us guessing. It is always a pleasure when such a character who has arranged the walls around him so well gets defeated by the last person they’d expect |

"I don't want you to understand me." -William Thorne by Anari
Oh, this is the perfect from rags to riches story - with benefits! Okay, so William Thorne isn’t a particularly likeable character to begin with. I guess I’d call him an anti-hero - but dayum is the guy sexy. When he drops into Victoria’s coffee shop, she’s immediately flustered. When he continues to visit her, day after day, things go from hot and steamy to molten very quickly. He whisks her away from her dreary life of drudgery and deposits her in his apartment as his ‘personal assistant’ although his designs aren’t office-based, that’s for sure!
He expects to be finished with her in three months. That’s how long his conquests usually last - but Victoria is about to throw a curve ball into the equation. She’s an innocent.
What happens when a self-confessed sadist clashes with an innocent? Read on to find out!

The book Fifty Shades should have been. by Aiden Darke
I read this book with no particular expectations one way or another, and loved it. The characters are well-rounded and sympathetic, even the supposed bad boy. The plot flows well, with a great twist at the end. And the sex scenes are hot and beautiful. This is the book 50 Shades should have been!

Dark Secrets & Clever Twists by Chloe Thurlow
It is essential for a writer to develop, to extend themselves, to go to the edge and then take a leap – of faith, into the unknown. Anything but keep digging in the same hole. That’s is what RB O’Brien has done with ‘Thorne: Rose's Dark Contract.’ Again, we find flawed, complex characters well-drawn and multi-dimensional, but the mood is more edgy, the writing more compelling.
The ‘dark contract’ is drawn up by Thorne – a man who admits from the off that he is ‘a monster,’ a drunk, a liar, a greedy manipulator - and signed by Victoria Rose. A trusting ingénue taken on as an assistant, Victoria is drawn into Thorne’s furtive world and overwhelmed by his powerful personality. Thorne is a user, an abuser, a man who takes what he wants, sucks out its essence and spits out what remains. Relationships, real relationships, are not for him.
But there’s something about Victoria Rose, maybe her innocence, her youth, her sadness – her beauty, that gets into his blood and into his brain. He wants to be rid of her and she wants to know what terrible secret lies at the heart of his cruelty – a puzzle O’Brien plants in your head and it nags you as you race through the pages to an ending that is both satisfying and leaves you ready for more.

Deliciously Dark and Complex Story! by mpritchardmk
Unbelievably this box set is my first time reading one of RB O’Brien’s books. RB’s attention to detail in her scene setting, in her characters, and in the storyline. Her characters are all complex and never exactly what they seem when you first meet them. Even the secondary characters are complex and faceted with many sides. Victoria/Rose is the heroine in this story. She seems so innocent and naïve when we are first introduced to her. And she is and she isn’t. Thorne, the hero of the series, seems so hard and dark. He says he’s a monster but is he really? I love the contrasts and the constant juxtaposition of light against dark and good against evil. I love pealing back the layer of her characters to get to the true essence of who they really are. Make no mistake this story has some wonderful steamy and salacious scenes. If you are into that, as I am!, you will love the way RB sets those scenes as well. I recommend this box set and it certainly won’t be the last I read of RB O’Brien’s books!
Seductive, Emotional, Gripping Story. by A. Shades
There are stories that you can say you like, some you may enjoy and love, but I can guarantee you that they are NOT anything like this story by Ms. O'Brien. This was one of those stories that really was a page turner, addicting, and allowed me to escape reality and delve into a world of beautiful submission. When a previous reviewer said this was the book Fifty Shades should have been, that was no lie. THIS book is all that and so much more.
From page one Ms. O'Brien grabs your attention. She opens the novel within the thoughts of Mr. Thorne - "sadistic prick" as he calls himself - a man who has secrets, a man who is dark, and dangerous, and should be off limits to the innocent and naive Miss Rose.
The relationship between Victoria and Thorne is somewhat forbidden, intense, and one that he never intended, nor wanted, to have. He was used to control, to being in charge, and yet with Victoria we see him more "human" than he admits he is. More than he allows others to see him. He is a bag of contradictions, though; both hard and strong, yet we see glimpses of insecurity.
Also revealed to the reader are clues, as one reviewer mentioned, into his past; what makes him behave the way he does, treat people the way he does. And Victoria, although submissive in nature, is stronger than she at first appears, and is very intelligent. She is the perfect counter to his hardened nature.
The intimate scenes are a beautifully written piece of art in this erotic story, and left me breathless. The chemistry between the two characters is off the charts hot. Pain and pleasure, desperation and desire, seduction and submission - I could go on, but you really should read it for yourself. If I could give this book 10 stars, I would. As a matter-of-fact: I do!
There are twists and turns, intrigue and betrayal, heartbreak and, love?... Plus so much more!
This is one story that I invested more than just money in...I invested my emotions as well. Not something I can often say.
(I purchased and read the series as individual stories.)

Fasten your seatbelt & stock up on coffee before you begin reading this mind blowing conclusion! by Molly Imogen’s extreme strength, endurance and self control is second to none! The terrifying experiences endured by the other captive women had to endure at the hands of the other heartless soldiers in this war, would make any woman wish for death. At first, I was beyond furious with Erik, and questioned his tactics and reasoning behind every lesson that he needed to instill in Imogen’s mind. Erik’s harshness, the madness of Imogen’s emotions, the love, hate, jealousy, sadness, pain and pleasure, …. and Erik’ damn constant “edging” drove me insane! AND I nearly lost my mind when I finally got to read THAT one particular page… the one where Erik says to Imogen: “Tell me what you want, Imogen. And how. And what your body needs, now that it knows pleasure... Tell me, Imogen. Explicitly. And I will give it to you.” The buildup to this scene, and the release… her release :) … was pure cathartic FIRE! You WILL need a fan and copious amounts of ICE… just sayin.’ |
Captivating by Candy Edwards
This book was captivating. I read it in the early hours of the morning and couldn't put it down. Imogen was taken prisoner on the wedding night by enemy forces. She became war spoils for a high ranking officer named Erik. She was pushed into a world she never knew existed. Erik took her virginity and in time she started to develop feelings for him. She was so conflicted. In Erik's world, she could face extreme conditions for not being strong and being frightened. This was a compelling story. I highly recommend this book.
I loved this book and enthusiastically recommend it.
This isn’t the first book I’ve read and enjoyed by this author. But this seemed different. Set in a futuristic, dystopian, unspecific society, Imogen is captured as a slave by her people’s enemy, but has the good fortune to be claimed by Erik, a man who appeared to have more of a sympathetic mind than his fellow soldiers, who were cruel to her fellow slaves.
Erik was attracted to Imogen, and she, against her will, found herself drawn to him. He appeared to satisfy a deep need in her. Her emotions ranged from anger, despair, fear – yet a deep sexual need began to dominate her thoughts. She became hysterically jealous of other slaves to whom Erik seemed attracted.
The story is extremely well-written, containing powerful emotion and erotic deeds. I found myself drawn more deeply into the struggle they both had – his to protect her from his fellow soldiers, and hers to survive her ordeal. Would they both survive to achieve the ending I hoped for? That you will have to find out by reading the book. I loved it, and enthusiastically recommend it.A beautifully written story about a virgin prisoner of war, and her experiences with her dominant but gentle captor. She discovers life as a slave, for all its hatefulness, has released profound feelings inside her. I have a real soft spot for dark reading matter, where our poor heroin is placed in untenable positions and her life is flipped upside down in a short period of time. Fans of capture, kidnap, coercion and forced seduction will get a thrill out of this quick series. Our hero, though demanding, is not without compassion and other redeeming qualities that make the Imogen Series a delectable and titillating read. As we travel with Imogen and Erik, we begin to realize that no one in this tough predicament is free to do things as they wish or as they should. I think that's a very necessary element in a story of this nature and helps your brain to come to terms with things the way they have to happen. Once you start the first quick installment you'll be hooked - save yourself some time and grab the box set!
Realistic, unstoppable. by Tim Dutton
I was hesitant to read this at first. I have spent half my life, fighting against and protecting people from this very idea. The realism is what drew me in. Everyone, seems to write about the fear, the pain, the disgust, but this is the first time I have ever seen an author dare to write about, the confusion, the guilt, and the dependence on a captor. It was was refreshing and handled in the best way possible. I was hesitant and Leary, not sure I wanted to read it because of my own personal beliefs. I thought I would just take a peek and satisfy my curiosity. I couldn't stop, couldn't put it down. R.B. O'Brien is one of the best writers I have had the pleasure of reading. She knows how to draw you into the story, how to make you feel the emotions, and knows how to keep you there. She handles a taboo subject, with a precision of a surgeon and the control of a lion tamer. And never once does she make you feel uncomfortable.
If you enjoy non-con, you'll love this! by NR79
Intense and emotional, the first Imogen story introduces the reader to the harsh reality which is now her life. I enjoy reading about non-consensual romances, and the anti-hero here does not disappoint. Erik perfectly portrays the contradiction between the brute and the tender lover, and I cannot wait to read more of his and Imogen's story. My only 'complaint' about this book is that there is simply not enough of it!
